The first group of ten missionaries who launched out into theunknown under the leadership of the intrepid Giovanni Cagliero, was in subsequentyears to be followed by other smaller or bigger expeditions, as the case would be, help-ing the Salesian Congregation, in due course, to go truly global. This was made possiblethanks to the realization, already during the time of Don Bosco and especially duringthat of don Rua, that a certain level of intellectual and cultural preparation had to be im-parted to all prospective missionaries and that they needed to be continuously accom-panied if they were to realize their goal of planting the Salesian charism in far-awaylands in conditions which were markedly different from their own countries of origin. | ||

Al primo gruppo di dieci missionari che si lanciò verso l’ignoto sotto la guida dell’intrepido Giovanni Cagliero, negli anni successivisarebbero seguite altre spedizioni più piccole o più grandi, a seconda dei casi, aiutandola Congregazione salesiana, a tempo debito, per diventare veramente globale.
