Description
Summary:"The Appointment of Josef Höfer as clerical Advisor of the German Embassy to the Holy See (1951-1954)" - The background to the re-establishment and occupation of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany after 1945 was complex. In particular, the question of the ambassador's confession played a decisive role. In 1951, the Vatican succeeded in insinuating a solution that structurally anchored the interests of the Catholics through the additional post of a clerical embassy counsellor. With the ecumenist Höfer, a personality was found, who also took into account the problem of confessionalisation that was virulent in the 1950s.
