For this discussion Papavoine assembled recent publications of theologians currently doing doctoral-research. Starting from tendencies in feminist-theological research in the Netherlands, such as have been described in the 'Nabeschouwing' (epilogue) of Van zusters, meiden en vrouwen (1986), she reviews the positions which are now adopted on naming, self-image, objectives and the identity of feminist theology. Following further reflection on the present state of affairs, Papavoine argues that a hermeneutical view of feminist theology as a contextual theology has the most to offer to this research. It is this approach that could do justice to the differences that are becoming manifest in themes and methods of the theologians engaged in Women's studies. Differences in background • religious, economical, political and cultural - which are determining the differences in the questions they pose, can thus be given a rightful place within their theological discussions. Papavoine argues in favour of naming these 'question-determining contexts' in actual terms and she exemplifies this by relating a number of disputed questions and images created among feminist theologians (the name of the discipline, relations with the grassroots, the existence or non-existence of a typical Dutch approach) with the contexts behind them. She then points out that a number of characteristic styles in themes and approach in feminist theological research are becoming visible at the local level and she argues in favour of more research into the historical context of the origin of feminist theology and of reflecting on feminist theology in the context of a secularized society. | ||
