Description
Summary:The paper is a preliminary study of the De cibis by Novaziano and Methodius. The Christian authors, one Latin and the other Greek, both characterized by ascetic interests, write their epistles-treatises more or less in the same period, certainly in the second half of the third century. In the context of a resemantization of the concept of purity, the two works establish that the correct exegesis of the Scriptures, and therefore the correct understanding of the Law, must be considered as a conditio sine qua non to guarantee true purity. Purity, therefore, is no longer a concept linked to a strict adherence to external rules. Who is truly pure, in his heart, his mind and his body, must be able to correctly interpret the Scriptures going further the veil of the letter. (English)
