AB "A parishioner recently contacted me to begin a process for the declaration of nullity of his former marriage. He and his former spouse had been married civilly, but they later convalidated their marriage in the Catholic Church. ls it advisable to introduce the man's petition on the ground of "defective convalidation " since, from what he tells me, the wife believed the civil marriage made the couple husband and wife and the Church ceremony was merely a "blessing" on their marriage?"
