The Eastern Church differs from this position in its teaching and stresses the sacramental dimension of marriage, giving considerable importance to the presence of the priest who imparts the blessung durting the liturgical celebration of the marriage. For this reason he is considered to be the minister of the marriage. The various attempts to codify the true identity of the minister of marriage have all been in vain. It has been argued that it is not appropriate to insert an expression that cannot be accepted by all, especially by the Eastern Churches. In reality, the reason why the CIC and the CCEO do not pronounce on the identity of the minister competent to assist at marriages arises from the understanding of the term minister which is not unanimous | ||
