In a number of decrees, Benedict XIV established the rule that cases without any eyewitnesses could be brought to a favourable end if the moral certainty gained by the documents were backed by four instead of two miracles as sign of God's approval. It was as late as after 1930 that the Cong. Rit. accepted moral certainly as sufficient proof, besides the miracle. This practice has been fully recognised by the CIC/1983 and the CCEO |
