| Summary: | A former member of my religious institute asked me to witness his marriage. Both the fellow and hisfiancee live in my parish. He came into the United States eight years ago as a seminarian for our community on a student visa. Subsequently he left our institute and his visa has expired. He will not apply for a marriage license lest he be reported to the I.N.S. and deported. I know that I cannot assist at a wedding that is not licensed by the state. Is there any way that he can enter in to a marriage recognized by the Church? |
