What would a disability ministry designed to meet the needs of a person affected by Alzheimer's look like? In an effort to answer these questions, this study examined the following: Perceptions of the church and society, as well as means of promoting effective ministry to the person affected by Alzheimer's. The “re-membering” of the person into the faith community, using the three paradigms of ministry, and the “Power of brokenness” within the church were also explored. The person affected by Alzheimer's becomes progressively vulnerable, and alone. They are often outcast and stigmatized. It is the responsibility of the faith community to facilitate inclusion of the person and their family into the church. Without the inclusion of all people, the church becomes disabled. All people, including those affected by Alzheimer's, bring special and unique talents from God to the church; increasing the ability to allow God to work in and through them. A disability ministry designed to meet the needs of people affected by Alzheimer's and their families is one way to facilitate this. | ||
