Summary: | This article uses theological resources found in the work of James Wm McClendon, Jr to articulate a way for Christians, particularly baptists, to reconceptualise their purpose in a pluralistic and pluralising world. Two themes are highlighted as being especially important for such a context: a robust affirmation of the need for Christians to be receptive to others, rather than putting themselves in the position of perpetual teachers; and the importance of articulating a Christian conception of power that can counter the rise of authoritarian political movements throughout the West. |
