A recent case in point is the quest to reconceptualize Chinese theological discourse through the lens of public theology, as exemplified by Alexander Chow’s Chinese Public Theology: Generational Shifts and Confucian Imagination in Chinese Christianity. Joining a growing body of scholarship on Chinese theology from the Late Ming through the post-Mao era (see, e.g., the treatments by Carl S. Kilcourse, Chen Yongtao, Philip L. Wickeri, Chloë Starr, and Naomi Thurston), Chow makes his contribution in the field by demonstrating a public theological turn.
