Description
Summary:This study of Christology in the Gospel of John updates and expands the author’s Christology of the Fourth Gospel (Frankfurt: Peter Lang, 1989; 2nd ed., 1992) in light of international research during the past 25 years. The book contains an introduction, two main parts, and a conclusion. The introduction (pp. 1-37) presents an extensive summary of Rudolf Bultmann’s neoclassical conception of Johannine Christology, discusses later developments in Johannine scholarship, and expresses the need for an up-to-date understanding of John’s Christology that recognizes Bultmann’s abiding insights but takes leave of his anachronisms such as his representation of the Fourth Evangelist as a demythologizer.
