Summary: | While the Italian centre-right forces have affirmed their previous leaderships for now, the transition to the recently appointed Draghi government has not been painless for the main political forces that supported the Conte 2 government. Meanwhile, a new civic and political participation is awakening in Italian society. The data in the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) “Bes 2020” report, for example, tell us this, combined with the signs of an awakening that appeared in Italian squares, and beyond, even before the pandemic. Protest and proposal movements indicate the existence of unrest in civil society. It will not be possible to disperse these new energies if spaces for debate are not opened up. However, will the political forces in the field be able to gather together and represent these sources in play within a mediating response? |
