Description
Summary:The synodal path of the Church in Germany is of great importance to the universal Church both because of the topics it deals with and as a process. As a response to the scandals caused by the misuse of power and sexualised violence, it considers the underlying cultural and structural factors that have encouraged abuse and made it possible. How to deal with power and sexuality, the life and self-understanding of priests, the position of women in the Church, and working towards a participatory and transparent form of agreement and decision-making in the Church are key themes of Church renewal that can no longer be avoided. The article sets these questions in the wider context of global challenges, increasing polarisation and threats to the unity of Church and society.
