If the answer is "yes", it is necessary to discuss its transient borders and put them aside, opening oneself to the values of transculturality. Given the phenomenon of migration which is changing the face of Europe, this is a discourse of the utmost urgency, all while a profound identity crisis is assaulting its values, models and institutions. This crisis is impacting the Churches and makes one fear whether they will be able to overcome it. We need new starts, to "invest the good news with a new meaning", making it capable of questioning; to rebuild the "relationship", demonstrating it in its immediate obviousness. I would reject the pretentious idea of "Christian" Europe - which, perhaps, there has never been - to focus instead on the re-invention of micro-communities, the yeast of a new world. They would contribute to the future of "this" Europe by identifying and promoting a new anthropological, social, political, economic, environmental paradigm, marked by subsidiarity, by mutuality, by inter-relatedness and by dialogue. | ||
