Σύνοψη: | Accepting the invitation of the Republic of Iraq and the local Catholic Church, Pope Francis will make an apostolic journey to Iraq, 5-8 March 2021. He will visit Baghdad, the Plain of Ur, which is linked to the memory of Abraham, the city of Erbil, as well as Mosul and Qaraqosh in the Plain of Nineveh, and Najab. Iraq is a predominantly Muslim country (95%), with a minority – though important – Christian presence. In this article, however, we will not deal with the religious theme, but with the political situation of the Iraqi state, that, after long years of bloody conflicts, is seeking its normalization from the political, economic and social point of view. |
