Description
The present paper analyzes the way in which a truth discourse about the family is produced by the members that form the Evangelical Parliamentary Front (EPF) in the Brazilian National Congress. We consider that the definition of family defended by these parliamentarians through the Family By-Law is constructed in opposition to the new families, more specifically the families formed by homoaffective and transaffective persons, delegitimizing them and denying them rights and protections that, according to the EPF point of view, should be given only to heterosexual families. We also perceived that there is an intimate relationship between the attempt to perpetuate traditional gender roles that promote the submission of women and determine motherhood as a natural condition and the homophobic structure that delegitimizes homosexual and transgender people because they do not fit in the hegemonic established standards of gender and sexuality. To the extent that such actions occur within the Brazilian State, promoted by our own legislators, they are also conformed as threats to the deepening of secularism and democracy.
