Les usages nationaux étant relativement différents, nous avons fait le choix de nous concentrer sur les usages du catholicisme anglais, entre l’Année sainte 1825 et la promulgation de la constitution apostolique Indulgentiarum Doctrina du 1er janvier 1967. Cet article soulignera la place qu’occupa la question des indulgences dans la controverse de l’époque contemporaine entre catholiques et protestants anglais ; puis présentera l’inflation du nombre des indulgences jusqu’à la Seconde Guerre mondiale tout en s’interrogeant sur l’intérêt des catholiques anglais pour elles ; enfin insistera sur la manière dont les indulgences furent utilisées dans le cadre de la campagne pour la « conversion de l’Angleterre », notamment à partir de l’année 1895. | ||
| 520 | |a The somewhat forced revival of the granting of indulgence prompts the historian to reconsider the importance which Catholicism gave to indulgences in the period before the Second Vatican Council. Since national customs were relatively different, we have chosen to focus on the customs of English Catholicism between the Holy Year 1825 and the promulgation of the Apostolic Constitution Indulgentiarum Doctrina on 1 January 1967. This article highlights the place occupied by the question of indulgences in the controversy of contemporary times between English Catholics and Protestants. Then, it presents the increase in the number of indulgences up to the Second World War, questioning the interest of English Catholics for them. Finally, it insists on how indulgences were used in the campaign for the “conversion of England,” especially from 1895 onwards. | ||
| 520 | |a Die etwas forcierte Wiederbelebung des Gebens von Ablässen lässt den Historiker sich im Rückblick für die Bedeutung interessieren, die der Katholizismus Ablässen in der Zeit vor dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil beimaß. Da die nationalen Gepflogenheiten relativ unterschiedlich waren, wollen wir uns auf die Gebräuche des englischen Katholizismus zwischen dem Heiligen Jahr 1825 und der Veröffentlichung der apostolischen Konstitution Indulgentiarum Doctrina am 1. Januar 1967 konzentrieren. Dieser Artikel hebt die Stellung hervor, die die Frage der Ablässe in der Kontroverse dieser Epoche zwischen englischen Katholiken und Protestanten spielte. Danach wird die inflationäre Zunahme der Ablässe bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg dargestellt, unter Infragestellung des Interesses der englischen Katholiken. Abschließend wird die Art und Weise betont, auf die Ablässe im Rahmen der Kampagne zur „Konversion von England“, insbesondere ab 1895, benutzt wurden. | ||
