AB For the most part, studies on the relationship between religion and digital can be grouped under the theme Digital Religion. Without being totally foreign to it, the phenomenon we are interested in here seems to be of a different order. Rather than ‘digitized religion’, we are confronted with what we might understand as a quest for digital meaning. Some authors who have described this technological religiosity argue that it serves to legitimize the belief in a new society. The study of what we have called ‘digitization’ would therefore be based on the sacralization of a set of techno-values, of which the internet would be both the tool of broadcast and the main symbolic object. If we recognize that religion has something to do with society’s idea of itself, we can ask ourselves whether the digital revolution, by generating a new type of society, does not contain a religious dimension.
AB Pour majorité, les études consacrées aux rapports numériques/religions peuvent être regroupées sous le vocable religion numérique (Digital Religion). Sans y être complètement étranger, le phénomène qui nous intéresse ici semble d’un autre ordre. Plutôt qu’à de la religion numérisée, nous sommes face à ce que nous pourrions comprendre comme une quête de sens de type numérique. Quelques auteurs ont décrit cette religiosité technologique, certains soutenant qu’elle sert à légitimer la croyance en société nouvelle. L’étude du numérisé aurait donc pour fondement ce qu’on présente comme la sacralisation d’un ensemble de techno-valeurs dont le réseau Internet serait à la fois l’outil de diffusion et le principal objet symbolique. Pour peu que l’on reconnaisse que la religion a quelque chose à voir avec l’idée que se fait la société d’elle-même, on peut se demander si la révolution numérique, en engendrant un nouveau type de société, ne comprend pas une dimension religieuse.
