Summary: | Two versions of the Chronographia brevis attributed to the patriarch Nicephorus have been preserved that go back to a common original. The short version may have been written already in the years 829-842 on the basis of a summary of the original written by Nicephorus, although it found wide difussion only later, after 886. The long version, which preserves more faithfully the structure and content of the original, was first published between 855-867. |
