Description
Summary:This article starts with a short overview of the performance and reception of oratorios at the imperial court in Vienna and then focusses on the libretti of five oratorios which have been performed at the court between 1674 and 1727. Therein King Solomon appears in quite different roles, e.g. as a wise man and as a lover. In at least one oratorio a contemporary political situation is referred to, namely emperor Leopold I who like David had his son crowned to be king.
