AB Today, 90% of the countries in the world already have clauses on religious freedom in their key legal texts. In view of this, one might ask: what is yet to be discussed regarding this subject? Have we not achieved an end of history concerning religious freedom? In fact, the Portuguese case, while usually claimed as a good example of religious freedom, continues to challenge this assumption. Our work focuses precisely on the analysis of these challenges. Through a questionnaire applied to evangelical leaders in Portugal, we analyze the perception of religious freedom in the country. We conclude that, although there is a well-defined system of State-religious separation and a relatively advanced regime of religious freedom, in Portugal there seems to be a certain dichotomy between de facto and de jure religious freedom.
AB Na atualidade, 90% dos países do mundo já possuem cláusulas sobre a liberdade religiosa nos seus textos legais fundamentais. Em face desta constatação, poder-se-á perguntar: o que mais haverá para tratar sobre o tema? Não se terá atingido um “fim da história” relativamente à liberdade religiosa? Com efeito, o caso português, embora se afirme, geralmente, como um bom exemplo em matéria de liberdade religiosa, continua a desafiar esse pressuposto. É precisamente a análise desses desafios que trazemos à luz neste trabalho. Através de um questionário aplicado às lideranças evangélicas em Portugal, analisamos a percepção da liberdade religiosa no país. Concluímos que, embora haja um sistema legal bem definido de separação Estado-religiões e um regime de liberdade religiosa relativamente avançado, no caso português parece haver uma certa dicotomia entre liberdade religiosa de facto e de jure.
