Resumo:"This book examines a series of ancient Jewish and Christian authors who wrote teleological stories, or stories with fixed endings, to encourage their readers toward specific ethical conduct. For each of the case studies examined in this book, the fixed end point of their narratives is a divided heaven or multiple heavens, where the saved enjoy greater or lesser rewards. Furthermore, just as there was more than one heaven or salvific reward, there were multiple types of ethical conduct, tailored to whether you were a Jew or a gentile, a saint or a sinner, a spiritual (pneumatic) or merely soulish (psychic) person. A saint will enjoy a higher level of salvation because she behaved differently than a repentant sinner. Saints will remain saints, and sinners will remain sinners, and each class will enjoy a different level of salvation"--
