The article builds on data from participatory observations on motor vehicle blessing rituals in Bolivia and on narrative and semi-structured interviews with various drivers. It demonstrates that two blessing rituals are performed to be protected when driving in Bolivia: The bendición by Catholic priests and the ch'alla per-formed by the drivers themselves or by a professional yatiri. I compare the collected data to the model of andino-catholic syncretism by Ina Rösing and contrast it with her thesis that the Andean religiosity is getting lost due to urbanization. The efficiency attributed to these rituals for protection against accidents and incidents, and the fear of negative consequences when not performing them show that in today's Bolivia the logic of reciprocity is widespread and that also "modern" technologies, such as the motor vehicle, are interpreted by the Bolivian population inside the symbol system of andino-catholic syncretism. | ||
| 520 | |a Der vorliegende Artikel basiert auf einer dreimonatigen Feldforschung im Jahre 2017 und trägt zum Bruch mit einer in religionswissenschaftlichen und anthropologischen Studien zu Lateinamerika verbreiteten Verlustperspektive bei, indem er nicht nach "Authentischem" sucht, sondern nachzeichnet, wie die Bevölkerung im heutigen Bolivien eine moderne Errungenschaft wahrnimmt und interpretiert. Mittels partizipierenden Observationen an bolivianischen Motorfahrzeugsegnungen und narrativen und semi-strukturierten Interviews mit verschiedenen Fahrzeugführern (leider konnte keine Fahrzeugführerin interviewt werden, da diese im bolivianischen Verkehr stark unterrepräsentiert sind) wird nachgewiesen, dass zwei Segnungsmethoden für ein sicheres Vorwärtskommen im bolivianischen Verkehr praktiziert werden: Die von katholischen Priestern ausgeführte Bendición und die von den Fahrern selbst oder von einem professionellen Yatiri getätigte Ch’alla. Die dokumentierten Rituale werden mit dem andino-katholischen Synkretismusmodell nach Ina Rösing verglichen und ihrer These, dass die andine Religiosität mit der Urbanisierung verloren gehe, gegenübergestellt. Die diesen Ritualen zugesprochene Effizienz für Schutz vor Unfällen und Pannen, und die Angst vor negativen Konsequenzen bei nachlässigen Segnungen zeigen, dass im heutigen Bolivien die Logik der Reziprozität weitverbreitet ist, und auch "moderne" Technologien, wie das Motorfahrzeug, von der bolivianischen Bevölkerung im Symbolsystem des andino-katholischen Synkretismus interpretiert werden. | ||
