En effet, ce texte est au départ une publication non autorisée, semble-t-il, de notes des cours de latin que Mélanchton donnait aux jeunes enfants dont il était le précepteur. Une fois livré à la presse avec un succès grandissant, le texte subit des transformations, légères mais multiples, voulues souvent par les imprimeurs qui cherchent à diffuser un outil adapté au mieux à leur chalandise. Ces retouches permettent ainsi au texte de changer de pays, et de passer d’Allemagne en France en modifiant les exemples vernaculaires, mais aussi de devenir de plus en plus « normé » selon les règles des apprentissages humanistes. | ||
| 520 | |a The Grammatica Latina of P. Melanchthon was certainly a bestseller for latin teachers in low classes all the 16th century long. It was one of the biggest sales successes, and is a great example of how written notes, perhaps or probably stolen from classroom when Melanchthon taught to his young private pupils, could became, from an issue to another, an efficient tool for learning latin. Many hands, mostly anonymous, took their part in modifying, often on small details, the text published in 1526. The changes were asked for by printers, and, until 1540, not by the author whose name is used as an advertisement on the title-page. Printers in various countries acclimated the text, modifying the translation of German examples to a translation in their own tongue ; they also adapted the text to their readers or customers, and gave to it the shape of a perfect humanist textbook. | ||
