Cependant, la mission en Samarie n’était, aux yeux de Luc (nous appelons ainsi le rédacteur final du livre), que la première étape de la diffusion de l’Évangile «jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre». C’est pourquoi le discours contient des éléments qui annoncent cet élargissement. Ce n’est pas seulement le texte de Luc qui est important ici, mais encore - telle est notre perspective - les traditions légendaires sur la Bible qui, transmises dans les synagogues, nourrissaient l’esprit des premiers lecteurs du discours d’Étienne.Stephen’s speech (Acts 7) may seem odd in the course of the book of Acts, and lacking consistency in its content. This speech becomes clearer when we consider it as an introduction to Christian mission in Samaria. For Stephen offers a way of reading the Old Testament that the Samaritan could share. However, in Luke’s mind (so we name the last redactor of Acts), the Samaritan mission was only a first stage in spreading the gospel 'to the ends of the earth'. This is the reason why Stephen’s speech contains elements that prepare this further expansion. Not only is Luke’s text important here, but also - and such is our main viewpoint - Biblical legendary traditions which were conveyed by synagogues and informed the minds of the early readers of Stephen’s speech. | ||
