Description
Summary:The concepts Signs of the time and kairos are interrelated theological concepts that share two characteristics: they denote something objective that is »out there« and needs to be dealt with in the right way; and at the same time, this objective reality exists for someone, a person or a community of persons, and thus its existence is subject-related. Looking at the way K. Rahner explained the sacraments I argue that they have that same structure in Catholic thinking: they are a subject-related objective reality in such a way that this objective reality could not exist without its subject-relatedness. The theological methodology of B. Lonergan analyzes how theological knowledge in general is subject-related and subject-mediated and how this must be seen as a kind of religious conversion. From both Rahner's and Lonergan's approaches I try to describe the interrelatedness and function of kairos, sign of the time, and sacrament.
