La historia de este patronato laico, que pervivió hasta fines del siglo xix, tiene la virtud de ofrecer un punto de observación particularmente rico de la administración de la fundación y de los cambios que se produjeron en las relaciones entre la familia patrona, el poder civil y el poder eclesiástico. El artículo muestra que la secularización argentina condujo a la expropiación de bienes sujetos a patronato laico y de mecanismos de intervención de las familias en la vida religiosa, lo que puso fin a ese mundo antiguo que preveía la interpenetración de lo espiritual y lo temporal, lo sagrado y lo profano, la búsqueda simultánea de la salvación y de la preeminencia social, la pluralidad de derechos sobre una misma cosa. El caso estudiado y otros similares deberían ponernos en guardia respecto del alcance universal de las lecturas de los procesos de desamortización que proponen un gran beneficiario, el Estado, y una gran y única perdedora, la Iglesia Católica. | ||

L’article montre que la laïcisation de l’Argentine a conduit à l'expropriation de biens faisant l’objet d’un patronage laïc et qu’elle a privé les mécènes des mécanismes d'intervention qu’ils utilisaient, mettant ainsi fin à un monde ancien qui prévoyait l'interpénétration du spirituel et du temporel, du sacré et du profane, la recherche à la fois du salut et de la prééminence sociale, enfin la pluralité des droits sur une même chose. Le cas étudié ici, et d'autres similaires, devraient nous faire douter des interprétations qui revendiquent l’universalité des processus d’expropriation qui profitent systématiquement à l’État au seul détriment de l’Église. | ||

The history of this patronage, which lasted until the end of the 19th century, offers a rich overview of the foundation’s administration, and the changes over time in the relationships between the patron families and the civil and ecclesiastical authorities. Argentine secularization led to the expropriation of property subject to lay patronages and denied the patrons the mechanisms of intervention that they had previously enjoyed. It thus put an end to an ancient system that saw the intertwining of the spiritual and the temporal, the sacred and the profane, as well as the simultaneous pursuit of salvation and social prominence, and the plurality of rights over a same property. This example and others like it should make us suspicious of interpretations that claim the universality of an expropriation process that systematically benefited the State to the sole detriment of the Church. | ||
