| 520 | |a The history of education in the Muslim intellectual history shows different aspects and dimensions. This article analyses the distinction that classical and modern Muslim scholars draw between education and redemption. Taking into consideration the need felt in modern European plural societies for a concept that encompasses both dimensions of education, I would like to argue that Muslim scholars distinguish between these two fields of education. On the one hand they highlight religious knowledge which was needed for the world hereafter, on the other hand they recognize the importance of practical education which aims to develop practical skills that people need for their daily lives. | ||
