Confirmation work is little noticed as a place of non-formal education in general youth research, although it is the aim of confirmation work to be an innovative place of education for young people and confirmation work wants to outline pathways to volunteerism. These points are critically examined from the perspective of youth work. It is shown that confirmation work has the potential to be a non-formal place of education. The prerequisite, however, is that confirmation work will focus more on the interests and needs of the young people and expand their participatory shares in the future. Furthermore confirmation work must be critical concerning its own reproductive mechanisms of social inequality. |
