This has happened at the same time that the impact of religion on world affairs has been increasingly noticed. Before the 1950s when lawsuits and court cases began to chase religion from the public square, religious factors were not excluded from public life. O. F. Nolde (1899-1972), a leader of the United Lutheran Church in America (ULCA), is a pioneer and an exemplar of public church especially in international affairs. During World War II and into the Cold War, he led ecumenical Protestantism in helping to shape the global moral and legal framework and to address international political crises. The article tracks Nolde's career. | ||
