Of singular interest is the figure of one of them, the hermit María de Santa Rosa, popularly known as the Saint of Sierra Elvira. Her figure supported a project of frustrated holiness, with foundational purposes. From this Mercedarian purpose only a tradition until the 20th century lasted. | ||

Hemos centrado el interés principal en la presencia femenina en torno a los mercedarios granadinos y al beaterio que fundaron, partiendo de un grupo de beatas libres de sujeción a regla. De singular interés resulta la figura de una de ellas, la ermitaña María de Santa Rosa, popularmente conocida como la «santa de Sierra Elvira». Sobre su figura recayó un proyecto de santidad frustrado, con fines fundacionales. De este propósito mercedario solo perduró una tradición que se mantuvo hasta el siglo XX. | ||
