Technically they are referred to as 'embolisms'. Specific place of origin and authorship, however, remain elusive. Two recent studies by Dr. Els Rose (2005 and 2017) have facilitated this study which is a follow up to Dr. Krosnicki’s 2017 article 'Invitations to the Lord’s Prayer and a Missale Gothicum Secret'. Each of the seventeen medieval prayer texts found in the Missale Gothicum is presented in its liturgical locus (ritual place and day of usage) and studied in terms of its threefold structural elements: address form, theological petition, and end form. The author provides the original Latin texts as well as their most recent English translation. The article opens with a brief presentation of the embolism of the Lord’s Prayer as found in the Missal of Paul VI (1970). This serve as a point of comparison between the seventeen seventh century embolisms found in the Gothic Missal, for use on various liturgical occasions, and the one embolism used today without change or variation at every Eucharist in the present Roman Rite. The juxtaposition of that one embolism in use today and the seventeen embolisms presented in the Gothic Missal offers points of liturgical comparison and pastoral reflection. | ||

La juxtaposition de ce seul embolisme en usage aujourd’hui et des dix-sept embolismes présentés dans le Missale Gothicum offre des points de comparaison liturgique et de réflexion pastorale. | ||
