Summary: | The contribution discusses the problems of Horner’s critical edition of the Bohairic version of the Gospel of John. To achieve this, the attestations of one manuscript (L / Göttingen Or. 125,4) in Horner’s critical apparatus are compared to the manuscript itself. The result shows that Horner’s way of using the manuscript is less reliable than hitherto assumed. It appears that Horner’s edition does not fulfil the requirements concerning the reliability of a critical edition. It appears reasonable to suggest that a new critical edition of the Bohairic version of the Gospel of John might be necessary. |
