The present study, revisiting proposals of both ancient and modern authors, aims to show that Qoh 11:9c cannot be considered a gloss; that excluding the idea of a divine judgement post mortem, the reference to both death and joy in Qoh 11:9c is coherent with Qohelet’s thought; finally, in line with some interpretations found in Rabbinic literature, that God’s judgement of death itself is seen as the end of the possibility of enjoying life. 
520 |a Mehreren Kommentatoren erscheint Koh 11, 9c als „Eindringling“, der in Kohelet eine fremde Idee einfügt, nämlich das göttliche Gericht, das dem Denken des Autors fremd ist. Die vorliegende Studie, die Vorschläge sowohl antiker als auch moderner Autoren aufgreift, soll zeigen, dass Koh 11, 9c nicht als Glosse betrachtet werden kann. Ohne die Idee eines Gerichtes nach dem Tode scheint Koh 11, 9c mit seinem doppelten Bezug auf Tod und Freude völlig im Einklang mit dem Gedanken des Kohelet zu stehen. Nach bestimmten rabbinischen Lesarten ist der Tod selbst das Gericht Gottes, der der Möglichkeit ein Ende setzt, das Leben zu genießen.
