De ce travail gigantesque ne subsiste-t-il vraiment que les pages de ce mince in-folio, souvent relié dès sa sortie avec la Bibliothèque françoise et que personne ne consulte jamais ? L’examen des ambitions, déçues, et la reconstitution de la collecte et des travaux préparatoires à la rédaction définitive du Supplementum conduisent à relire la Bibliotheque françoise en considérant le bibliographe latiniste qu’était Du Verdier. En fait presque partout dans la Bibliotheque françoise le latin est présent, non seulement en version originale, ou en source inépuisable de ces traductions qui enrichissent la langue française, mais comme une donnée documentaire essentielle sur les artisans de la francophonie. Autant dire que la part, latente ou patente, du latin dans la Bibliotheque françoise ne fait que confirmer l’image que Claude Longeon a donnée du bibliographe forézien Antoine Du Verdier il y a maintenant cinquante ans. | ||

Are the few pages of this thin folio, often bound with the Bibliotheque françoise and never consulted, the only surviving part of his gigantic work ? Examining the disappointed ambitions and reconstituting the collection of books and of the preparatory works for the definitive drafting of the Supplementum led me to re-read the Bibliotheque françoise considering Du Verdier as a Latin bibliographer as well. Latin is indeed to be found almost everywhere in the Bibliotheque françoise, not only in the original version or as the source of so many French books, but as essential documentary data on the architects of the Francophonie, finding which confirms the image Claude Longeon conveyed of Du Verdier as a bibliographer fifty years ago. | ||
