It shows how, for African Jesuits discussed in this essay, namely, Nicolas Ossama, Eboussi Boulaga, Meinrad-Pierre Hebga, and Engelbert Mveng, the institutional shift enacted by Arrupe was like new wine in old wineskins. They saw a gap between vision and implementation, which, as this essay discusses, might be explained by the lack of African representation in Jesuit consulting bodies in the 1970s. While this lack of representation preceded Arrupe's generalate, the essay outlines how it nevertheless shaped the implementation of his vision. (English) | ||
