Summary:Does money bring happiness? How does one become rich? How does one become poor? This essay analyzes the responses to these questions in a sample of around 1,300 children aged 8, 9, and 10 in Italy who are involved in the financial education project called "The Economic Pie," along with other aspects of their financial socialization. The research indicates that around half of those interviewed attribute significant importance to money, but not as a means for attaining happiness. Moreover, the majority of them are aware of some moral barriers (i.e., one cannot buy friends with money) and negative aspects (i.e., gambling) of the use of money. Finally, poverty is attributed to both social and individual factors that intervene in a person's financial career. (English)
