Description
Summary:In this paper, I would like to argue that models of God in Christianity are closely related to patriarchal cultures. Recognizing this link is crucial for transforming patriarchal to egalitarian relationships between women and men. I will elaborate on this link in terms of three propositions. First, I will explain the development of models and metaphors of God. Secondly, I will argue that models of God in Christianity are a product of patriarchal culture. Thirdly, I will deal with the dominant patriarchal model of God in Christianity, namely, God as Father. From these, I will propose a reconstruction of models of God in the Indonesian context and conclude that it is possible to transform a patriarchal culture into a culture that upholds egalitarian relationships between women and men.
