Summary: | The article develops a lecture held at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, in 2018. After a brief portrait of Giovanni Miccoli (1933-2017) as a scholar, the article outlines some notes on the historiographical theory of the historian of Trieste origin. It then insists on the scientific criteria of the historical studies as proposed by Miccoli, of which it also retraces the main research interests and those he considered the peculiar characteristics of historical- religious studies. Afterwards, the article focuses on the studies dedicated by Miccoli to Francis of Assisi and the Order of Friars Minor, pointing out the main historiographical issues with which he has faced, the centrality that the Franciscan sources had in his proposal. Finally, it presents the Christian proposal of Francis as focused by Miccoli. |
