| Summary: | In this article I examine the trajectory of contemporary scholarship on gender and Sufism in the West written for English-speaking audiences, with reference to key scholars as well as contexts that have influenced their scholarship. While not aspiring to be comprehensive, this survey offers an overview of an emerging and significant field of study that has developed rapidly in recent decades. After detailing early and seminal studies in the field, an attempt is made to summarize how new textual and field-based scholarship has opened new insights into the subject, and also has led to interpretive debates concerning some significant findings and their broader social relevance. Dans cet article, j'examine la trajectoire des recherches contemporaines sur le genre et le soufisme en Occident, destinées au public anglophone, en me référant aux chercheurs clés ainsi qu'aux contextes qui ont influencé leurs recherches. Sans vouloir être exhaustive, cette enquête offre un aperçu d'un domaine d'études émergent et important qui s'est rapidement développé au cours des dernières décennies. Après avoir détaillé les études initiales dans ce champ, j'essaie de résumer comment de nouvelles recherches textuelles et sur le terrain ont ouvert des perspectives novatrices sur le sujet et également conduit à des débats interprétatifs sur certaines découvertes importantes et sur leur pertinence sociale plus large. |
