Summary: | The Syro-Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Church sui iuris is blessed abundantly with the gift of vocation to consecrated life and thus very active with the presence of fifty-six indigenous institutes of consecrated life as well as the presence of her members in hundreds of such institutes in the Universal Church. This article presents an outline of the origin and development of the indigenous institutes of consecrated life in the SyroMalabar Church. It also analyses the canonical impacts, brought by the elevation of this Church to the Major Archiepiscopal status in 1992, on these institutes. Finally, the author deals with the struggles and the challenges faced by these institutes in the present scenario of the life and mission of this Church sui iuris and points out the contributions and assistances offered by these institutes to this Church sui iuris and to the Universal Church. |
