AB Körperbilder transportieren nicht nur medizinische, sondern auch ästhetische Werte, deskriptiv wie normativ. Gesundheit und Schönheit bilden jeweils eigene Maßstäbe im Umgang mit dem Körper. Diese Entwicklung, die sich seit der Neuzeit auch in Versuchen der Bestimmung von Normalität ausprägt, treibt die Auseinandersetzung um die Verhältnisbestimmung von Natürlichkeit und Künstlichkeit sowie von Autorität und Authentizität in medizinischen Entscheidungen an: Welche Eingriffe sind statthaft und wer entscheidet darüber? Der Beitrag zeigt, welche Probleme entstehen, wenn ästhetische mit medizinischen Maßstäben konfrontiert werden. In der Frage nach einer ethisch plausiblen Kombinatorik dieser Leitwerte wird für eine rationale Einschränkung des technisch Möglichen plädiert.
AB Body images convey not only medical standards but also aesthetic standards – both descriptive and normative ones. Health and beauty form individual standards of how we deal with our body. This development – which since the beginning of the modern age has been reflected in attempts to define normality – is a driving force in the discussion on determining the relation of naturalness and artificiality, as well as authority and authenticity in medical decisions: Which interventions and procedures are permissible and who should decide about that? This paper discusses the problems that may arise when aesthetic standards come up against medical standards. Looking for an ethically plausible combinatorics of these standards, a reasonable limitation of what is technically feasible is advocated.
