In ragione di varie incongruenze interne, è probabile che l'intera tradizione discenda da un esemplare non compiuto dell'opera, e che in essa sopravvivano lezioni potenzialmente alternative su cui Prospero non aveva effettuato una scelta definitiva (cioè varianti d'autore). L'esame del florilegio Lipsia, UB, Rep. I 74 4°, finora mai considerato dagli editori, porta a due importanti conclusioni: da un lato esso si rivela indipendente dai due principali subarchetipi individuati dagli editori, e potrebbe formare un terzo ramo dello stemma (ipotesi che comporterebbe notevoli conseguenze ecdotiche); dall'altro esso preserva una lezione di alto valore testuale che è molto probabilmente una variante d'autore risalente a Prospero stesso e obliterata nella maggioranza degli altri testimoni. | ||
| 520 | |a The Liber Epigrammatum of Prosper Aquitanus is a collection of about a hundred epigrams, each of which is based on a sententia of Saint Augustine. Around 180 witnesses preserve the text of the Liber. Due to some inconsistencies of the text, it is probable that the whole manuscript tradition derive from an unfinished copy of the Liber, not revised by the author. It is also probable that authorial variants survive in some of the extant manuscripts. The examination of the florilegium Leipzig, UB, Rep. I 74 4°, ignored by all editors, leads to two conclusions: first, this florilegium is independent from the two hyparchetypes detected by the editors, and might form a third branch of the stemma (which would imply some relevant consequences in editing the text); secondly, it preserves alone an excellent reading, which might well be a variant created by Prosper himself and lost in all other manuscripts. | ||

I 74 4°, toujours ignoré par les éditeurs, aboutit à deux conclusions : premièrement, que le florilège est indépendant des deux hyparchétypes dont descendent tous les manuscrit conservés, et qu'il pourrait être une troisième branche du stemma (ce qui entraînerait des conséquences éditoriales importantes) ; deuxièmement, il préserve une leçon très intéressante qui pourrait être une variante d'auteur oblitérée dans toute la tradition et jusqu'à présent ignorée par les éditeurs. | ||
