| Summary: | This article outlines the most significant developments in the treatment of sin, with a particular focus on the practice of the sacrament of penance. At once a court of conscience and a moment of spiritual healing, this sacrament has gone through different phases, from its understanding as a collective experience in the earliest Christian communities to the return of this dimension after the Second Vatican Council, following many centuries in which purely individual practice of the sacrament was predominant. This process reveals a permanent dialectic between the moral and theological aspects of sin which bears witness to the fact that sin is a part of the history, by nature always open, of the living relationship between God and human beings and, more largely, all of creation. L'article déploie quelles ont été les grandes évolutions dans le traitement des péchés, en se référant principalement à la pratique du sacrement de pénitence. À la fois tribunal de la conscience et lieu de sa guérison, ce dernier a connu plusieurs périodes, depuis son appréhension collective dans les premières communautés chrétiennes jusqu'au retour de cette dimension à la suite du concile Vatican II, à travers les nombreux siècles marqués par la prééminence d'une pratique surtout individuelle. Ce parcours montre également une dialectique permanente entre l'aspect moral et l'aspect théologal du péché qui atteste du fait que le péché s'inscrit dans l'histoire, par nature toujours ouverte, de la relation vivante entre Dieu, les êtres humains et, plus largement, l'ensemble des créatures. |
