Summary: | In the same way that the famous Constitutions of Narbonne of 1260 were more of a synthesis of developments of prior decades than anything completely novel, so too the Conventual Franciscan Constitutions of 2019, as approved by an Extraordinary General Chapter held at Nemi in 2018. The synthesis of these developments can be found in the first two articles of the new Constitutions; all the revisions flow rather seamlessly from the opening pair. They include: the Order as a religio; a fraternal brotherhood; minoritas as a characteristic way of following the poor and humble Jesus; the Conventual dimension, both in fraternal life and in mission; the Marian and Kolbean dimensions which promote both holiness and mission; and a way of thinking theologically in communio.
