| Σύνοψη: | Melchior Cano's work De locis theologicis was published posthumously in 1563 and immediately garnered immense interest among scholars, provoking a lot of controversy. Jesuit theologians in particular rejected many of Cano's theses. In 1714, François-Jacques-Hyazinth Serry published his Melchioris Cani Vindicationes in order to refute some of the allegations against Cano. This article covers the methodology employed by Serry and highlights the fact that Serry's defense of Cano is the first comprehensive collection of theological arguments against Cano. Serry's Vindicationes are, therefore, a milestone in the modern history of theology as a compendium of the reception history of Cano. |
