| Summary: | The notion of typology and allegory provides often disputed labels for a non-literal interpretation of scripture. Their so called renaissance in 20th century theology and literary studies can be evaluated in correlation with the multiple rising threats towards the Old Testament in the first half of the century. The proponents of a rediscovered spiritual exegesis thus confidently underline the historical ‘basis’ of typology and allegory as a criterium of adequacy. This concept of spiritual exegesis is therefore connected with a specific concept and theology of history. Moreover, the idea of ‘newness’ in the interpretation of scripture draws a distinct line of demarcation between the semantic change in Christian allegory and the different forms of classical philosophical allegory. Following these presuppositions this investigation develops several perspectives on the hermeneutic potential and existential significance of the ‘sensus spiritualis’. Der Aufsatz untersucht die ‚Wiederentdeckung‘ geistiger Schriftauslegung (d. h. Typologie und Allegorese) im 20. Jahrhundert und ihre Kontexte aus theologischer und literaturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive. Dabei liegt ein besonderer Fokus auf der Frage nach dem inneren Zusammenhang von Schriftauslegung und Geschichtskonzept. Wie verhält sich die typologische Skizzierung der ‚Heilsgeschichte‘ zu dem, was als historische Wirklichkeit erfahren und bezeichnet wird? Die Proponenten der geistigen Schriftauslegung verfolgen ein ‚geschichtlich‘ zu nennenden Anliegen, das gerade vor dem Hintergrund mehrfacher zeitgeschichtlicher Infragestellung der Geltung des Alten Testaments relevant ist. Ebenfalls in den Blick genommen wird die Motivation der für diese Entwürfe konstitutiven Abgrenzung von philosophischer (Mythen-)Allegorese: Christliche Schriftauslegung wird im Zeichen (radikaler) ‚Neuheit‘ akzentuiert. Am Ende steht die vorläufige Skizze möglicher hermeneutischer ‚Spielräume‘ und existentiell bedeutsamer Potentiale dieser Auslegungsform der Heiligen Schrift. |
