Many people heavily rely on their professional life to define themselves; their social status is tightly linked to their profession. Although professions play such a significant role, professional research is still in its beginnings and has not yet been located. In many scientific disciplines the context of profession and vocation is studied from the relevant perspective. The handbook professional research presents existing research approaches and results, research gaps and tasks relating to the topic profession. Seventy experts from different scientific disciplines contributed to the publication on hand and thus offer their share in the multidisciplinary approach for extensive professional research. Der Beruf ist ein Grundelement gesellschaftlichen Lebens und gesellschaftlicher Strukturen. Viele Menschen definieren sich stark über ihr berufliches Wirken, die gesellschaftliche Stellung ist eng mit dem ausgeübten Beruf verknüpft. Obwohl Berufe einen so hohen Stellenwert haben, steht die Berufsforschung noch am Anfang und ist nicht klar verortet.
