Self-actualization was measured by the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI). A structured interview which included a scale by Rotter and one by McClosky was used to measure religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices, and to measure political-social attitudes, family structure, demographic data, and level of moral development. The population consisted of 164 seminary students at a theological seminary in the southwestern United States. On the basis of the subjects' POI scores three samples of 15 students each were chosen to represent high, moderate, and low levels of self-actualization. Differences among the actualization groups were found for denominational loyalty, ecumenical attitude, personal plans for church vocation, reported socio-economic level, status of mother's occupation, liberalness of political attitude on concrete issues, and birth order.
